Introduction to the Internet: Class Exercise


Open Internet Explorer.

If you are not already at the Carmel Clay Public Library’s home page, go there by typing www.carmel.lib.in.us in Internet Explorer’s address box.

Press the Enter key when you have finished typing the address.

Under the menu of library departments at the left of the screen, click on the “Book Reviews” link under “Reference.”

Choose to browse the reviews by subject. Click on the arrow at the right of the box to bring up the subject menu.

Select “General Fiction” by moving your mouse up the list and clicking on the phrase.

When you’ve selected “General Fiction” from the menu, click the Search button under that box.

Find and read the review of Daughter of Fortune. (You might need to click the gray box below the first set of results in order to see more titles.)

Click on the Back button to get back to the Library’s front page.

10. Under “Reference,” click on “Useful Web Sites” to see the categories of useful links the Reference Department provides via its web site.

11. From where you are, type www.cnn.com in Internet Explorer’s address box to view CNN’s Web site. (Remember to press the Enter key when you’ve finished typing the address.)

12. Use the vertical scrollbar to view the entire page of news.
